AbstractThis paper reports on a study of Bangladeshi teachers' perceptions of student behaviour. Semi-structured, one-on-one interviews were conducted with 22 teachers from six primary schools in one district in Bangladesh. Thematic analysis technique was used to analyse the data. The findings indicated that teachers conceptualized students' inappropriate behaviours as "intentional," "unacceptable," "deviant," and "not likely to change." Aggressive, disruptive, and disrespectful behaviours were identified by teachers as serious and of the greatest concern. The majority of teachers emphasized poor parenting and absence of corporal punishment in school as potential causes for students to behave inappropriately. The implications of the findings are discussed for identifying suitable teaching practices by which Bangladeshi teachers can address students' behavioural issues. (As Provided).
