AbstractAlthough the use of technology can be very important for children younger than age 12 years, not all countries possess the financial resources to make digital resources widely available to students. Children can also use technology inappropriately. This study explores the consequences of exposure to different forms of technology on children. It focuses on how resources such as desktop, laptop, and handheld computers can enhance learning but also distract students by providing them access to games and content not appropriate for young students, such as pornography. It also explores the power technology has to addict young children to electronic stimulation. The study specifically considers the Egyptian education system, technology growth in Egypt, and the impact of technology on schooling for young children. The focus on technology use in Egyptian homes and schools includes a discussion of previous research and findings of interviews about technology use by children younger than age 12 years.
