Abstract | This article examines the outcomes of the ACEE program, which is a one-year transition program for youth with disabilities, preparing them for the workplace and adult life. In a mixed methods approach, the investigators surveyed sixty-six youth with disabilities who were alumni of the program and followed up in depth with ten alumni in in-depth interviews and focus groups. The results show that the youth are doing well in terms of community participation and mobility. Many of them are active and involved into different social networks, be it with family, friends or community organizations. On the other hand, the study highlights issues in regards to employment and independent living. Employment can be precarious and underpaid, and the alumni's living situation often depends on their families, as there are few other options to them available. (As Provided). |
