Abstract	In this commentary, the author raises the question whether there are other pearls of wisdom from early articles of BME research that are being missed because they showed up in print too soon? Arbaugh bases his reasoning's from the 1984 article by Fiechtner and Davis ("Why Some Groups Fail: A Survey of Students' Experiences with Learning Groups"). First, Arbaugh believes this article may have attained a relatively wide appeal due to its accessibility to audiences beyond management education. Also, group activities as assessments are characteristic of many disciplines and reach beyond management education to science education and to higher education in general. A second reason the article may have had such appeal was that it examined this issue from a perspective not commonly considered at that time in BME research--that of the student. A third factor in the article's influence may be the ready opportunities it provided to build on both its approach and its findings. That the possibility that student-selected teams also can be effective has been confirmed in subsequent studies of management education. Arbaugh closes, that perhaps those of us who are dedicated to the study of improving management education and BME research might do well to go back to draw upon the wisdom of those who have gone before.
