AbstractThis column contains information on how students in graduate library and information science programs participate in a forum to discuss key issues they see in academic library public services, to envision what they feel librarians in public service have to offer to academia, to state their visions for the profession, or to tell of research that is going on in library schools. Bryan James McGeary, an MLIS student at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Information Sciences (SIS), presents the subject of "Revamping the Model for Academic Library Video Collections." With the prominence of streaming video, to best serve users, libraries must make their video collections more accessible, both within and outside their own institutions, as well as take greater agency in the developing marketplace of streaming video in order to have a more powerful role in determining the future directions streaming models will take. McGeary states that the current climate also necessitates proactive collaboration between institutions to facilitate greater resource sharing and to leverage their bargaining power with the aim of ensuring that the interests of their patrons are best represented in the marketplace.
