| Abstract | This study explored the relationships between racial identity attitudes and ego identity statuses among 255 Black Caribbean college students in the Northeast United States. Findings indicated that racial identity attitudes were predictive of ego identity statuses. Specifically, preencounter racial identity attitudes were predictive of lower scores on ego identity diffusion and foreclosure statuses and higher scores on achievement status. Immersion--emersion racial identity statuses were predictive of lower scores on ego identity diffusion, foreclosure, and moratorium statuses. Finally, internalization racial identity statuses were predictive of lower scores on achievement status. Implications for diversity in higher education research are discussed. (As Provided). |
