Abstract | In this article, Clay and Rhee use the mathematics topic of circles and the lines that intersect them to introduce the idea of looking at the single mathematical idea of relationships--in this case, between angles and arcs--across a group of problems. They introduce the mathematics that underlies these relationships, beginning with the questions asked, the tools used, and the language used in that process to talk about the mathematics. Clay and Rhee challenge readers to begin drawing visuals and practice talking about these relationships in ways that create a connected web of mathematical ideas rather than problems to be solved.
