AbstractIn this article I consider the place of a school in Cyprus that admits students from both sides of the Green Line and the role sport is meant to play in bringing students from diverse backgrounds together. One of the island's elite schools, The Lefkos Academy (TLA), is one of the few places where Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots gather together on a daily basis, yet barriers are still created to prevent them mixing freely. Sport promotes its ability to bring people together yet neither the International Olympic Committee (IOC) nor Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the two biggest sporting bodies on the planet, is involved in both Cypriot communities. Cyprus has a long history as a contested site and since 1974 the two main communities have been separated by a buffer zone manned by the UN. The boundary that separates them continues to influence relations between the two communities and the role large international sporting organisations are willing or able to play in bringing the peoples of the island together. It is left to smaller organisations to try to do so and the school has a role in this. (As Provided).
