Abstract | Stories about young graduates grumbling about a variety of concerns, from the price of athletics tickets to a perceived lack of outreach from faculty they worked with as students, pop up frequently in chatter among alumni directors at conferences, on discussion boards, and in casual conversations between peers. The consensus is that graduates' expectations of goods and services from their alma maters have dramatically increased in the past decade, and alumni directors need a remedy for the epidemic. With the tides of entitlement showing no sign of ebbing, alumni relations professionals must find ways to serve--or at least peacefully coexist with--this alumni population and its increasing demands. This article offers tips for alumni relations professionals on how to cope with this recent shift in alumni attitude towards their alma mater. (ERIC). |
