AbstractThis quantitative study explored the relationships and differences between faculty groups at US higher education institutions (HEI) on their collective efficacy (CE) beliefs, perceived insider status (PIS), and job satisfaction. Faculty at six HEIs and across social media responded to a self-report survey. Faculty were divided into tenure/tenure track, willfully contingent, and unwilfully contingent. Findings indicate significant differences between faculty groups' PIS and job satisfaction scores, and the combined independent variable grouping of PIS, CE beliefs, status, age, and years of teaching predict job satisfaction. Having established the significant role CE beliefs and PIS play in job satisfaction across faculty groups, further research could investigate the effect of interventions intended to increase CE beliefs and PIS across the professorate.
