AbstractGrade 7 students are not college-ready because they do not have skills for applying, accessing, or identifying their college needs. Students do not know the opportunities and resources available to help gain acceptance into college and feel they cannot apply for college due to financial, academic, career, or personal reasons. Districts fall short in expanding student opportunities and placing the most vulnerable students on a path to college (Schmeiser & Coleman, 2021). This study investigated how College Boot Camp, a college counseling course during a Response-To-Intervention (RTI) class, affected students' college readiness. The study utilized an improvement-science approach to identify the problem and contributing factors and design an action plan. The researcher studied formative and summative assessments and drew conclusions from quantitative and qualitative data from lessons, course surveys, and tests. Findings suggest College Boot Camp increased student desire to attend college by 13.4%. Likewise, 66.7% of participants felt they knew how to find a college that fits their needs. This study confirmed that as self-efficacy increased, so did the desire to attend college. After exposure to activities supporting college dreams, middle school students' desire to attend college increased. Study data analysis indicates that middle schools should implement courses that increase students' desire to attend college. Teachers need to structure these courses around a curriculum that introduces students to postsecondary terms and options, exposes students to high school and collegiate course options, encourages students to self-assess interests, and helps students to develop profiles and networks.
