Abstract | Before school closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the frequency with which teachers used computer activities to teach a class varied across education systems. However, many teachers across the board reported the need for professional development to teach using technical devices. Using results from TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) 2019, this brief examines schools' and teachers' readiness for remote teaching, learning and opportunities available to improve the delivery of remote learning experiences online.
