Abstract | Numerous studies have researched the development of relational spirituality, especially in connection with prayer habits, character virtue, and positive psychology. Numerous studies have also explored the importance of intercultural competence, especially in higher education institutions as they prepare their constituents for an increasingly globalized world. Aside from a series of quantitative studies investigating graduate students in helping professions at Bethel University, very little research has examined the intersection of these two domains, especially in undergraduates. This study explores aspects and possible factors in the holistic development of both domains in undergraduate student leaders at a Christian university in Southern California. A literature review is offered for both the domains of relational spirituality and intercultural competence. A theological exploration of neighborliness is integrated with intercultural competence to emphasize the study's Christian worldview. A dual qualitative research approach incorporating both focus groups and follow-up interviews provided significant data for grounded theory inquiry. The purposeful sample was chosen from student leaders who completed the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) between the Fall 2018 and Fall 2020 semesters, and scored in the upper half of the scale.
