AbstractNursing programs in the country are facing challenges in producing enough nurses who are safe, compassionate, and critical thinker to meet the growing demands of the health care system. Lack of clinical sites and qualified faculty are some of these challenges which resulted to a long list of applicants in the nursing programs. Nursing programs are using high-fidelity patient simulation as one of the initiatives to address these issues. However, despite the mounting evidence on the benefits of using HFPS as a teaching tool, there is an underutilization of these new technology by nurse educators. This qualitative phenomenological study explored the perceptions of nurse educators on the success and barriers in implementing HFPS. The researcher used the NLN Jeffries Simulation Theory and Adult Learning Theory to guide the theoretical framework of the study. The participants of the study were 10 nurse educators who have at least six months of experience in using HFPS and are teaching either in the practical nursing or associate nursing program. The researcher used individual interviews through Zoom or in person interviews whichever is preferred by the participants for data collection. The result of the study revealed different elements perceived by the participants as successes in the implementation of HFPS: proper training in operating the equipment, technical support and designated faculty available during simulation, and a clear student' expectations of the simulation activity. The participants of the study also identified barriers in the implementation of HFPS: no proper training in operating the equipment, no extra time to prepare and conduct simulation, lack of support staff, simulation not properly articulated in the curriculum, and students not treating the manikins as real patients during simulation. The participants of the study agreed that HFPS is an effective teaching tool in nursing education and support from administration is important to improve the perceptions of nurse educators and the probability of using the equipment in nursing education. The result of this study contributes to the existing body of knowledge on HFPS in nursing education. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
