Abstract | There are far too many painful stories about cyberbullying--stories about young adults and adolescents whose lives have been crushed or destroyed because of words, embarrassing pictures, and videos that have been posted on social media by their peers with the intention to defame their character and demean their self-esteem, sometimes to the point of suicide. Resilience can help cyberbullying victims identify and handle resulting trauma in a healthy manner. What if resilience, taught at a young age, could help individuals deal with the effects of cyberbullying abuse and trauma much more effectively, and those individuals could visualize their situations as more of an opportunity to learn and grow, rather than allowing it to devastate their lives? For this applied doctoral project, a workbook was created and designed for parents and school administrators to help children deal with the trauma around cyberbullying by teaching resilience. A literature review was conducted to answer these questions: What is cyberbullying and how prevalent is it in our society today? How does cyberbullying affect the victim(s)? Under what circumstances does cyberbullying generally occur? In what ways do victims react to cyberbullying? How has resilience been defined in the literature? What evidence is there that resilience combats the effects of cyberbullying? and How does social media affect cyberbullying? To compose the workbook, approximately 164 articles written between the years 1989 and 2020 were reviewed to research types of cyberbullying, the victims' responses to the cyberbullying, the types of intervention or lack of that has been implemented to-date, and how teaching resilience could mitigate the effects of cyberbullying.
