AbstractAs college graduates transition to practice in their chosen professions, research findings have indicated that SDLR is foundational to continual learning on the job. The Self-directed Learning Readiness Scale for Nursing Education (SDLRSNE) was the basis of this quantitative correlational study. Graduates from accelerated, blended media arts programs at a Southeastern Michigan career college completed the questionnaire. The specific problem is a lack of understanding regarding program graduates' self-directed learning readiness (SDLR) and its effect on employability. Program graduates may not meet employers' needs despite leaders' beliefs to the contrary because of a lack of readiness to be self-directed. The primary purpose of this research was to identify whether relationships exist between SDLR, the length of employment, and the participant's program. A secondary purpose was to determine whether the mean score of SDLR among program graduates differs from the instrument's mean of 150.55 or between graduates based on the program. An analysis of 98 datasets from a population of 948 graduates answered the four research questions. The questions were structured to help educators, workforce developers, and human resource managers better understand the SDLR of graduates. Scores were statistically higher than the hypothesized mean, suggesting that graduates from the selected career college were ready to be self-directed learners beyond college. However, there was not a predictive association between SDLR and length of employment. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
