AbstractThis study represents a repeat of Simmons's (1996) study to determine to what extent large schools that are members of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) are conducting board member evaluations of chief administrators 25 years after the original study was conducted. The study involved analyzing the schools by conducting assessments to evaluate the degree to which educators respect the procedure and the content of the tests. The study also involved assessing whether a correlation exists between the scope of the measurement and administrative experience. This study contributes to the body of evidence while addressing areas in need of enhancement. By using quantitative methodology, 320 chief administrators in ACSI schools with more than 250 students responded to 19 questions. The first question asked whether the school board had evaluated the administrator. The next two questions pertained to written policies and practices that define the administrator's evaluation. The remaining questions explored the nature and extent of assessments that the school board conducted. Answers to these questions provided information crucial to developing more effective practices for ACSI school board members to follow in evaluating chief administrators. The results revealed a need to improve the present state of evaluation in large ACSI schools and that ACSI schools are on par with counterparts in public schools in establishing formal policies to govern the board evaluation of a chief administrator. ACSI school boards have shown tremendous growth in the consistency of the assessment of chief administrators.
