AbstractThe purpose of this quantitative, comparative, descriptive study was to examine and compare the self-assessments of interprofessional collaborative competence of graduating nursing students (GNS) to the assessments of the preceptors at the end of their preceptorship rotation in Las Vegas, Nevada. The participants' demographic variables including age, gender, and participation in interprofessional education were examined. The GNS' IPCC levels were assessed using the Interprofessional Collaborator Assessment Rubric (ICAR), which consists of six interprofessional collaborative competencies including communication, collaborative patient/client and family-centered approach, roles and responsibilities, team functioning, and conflict resolution and management. A Mann-Whitney U analysis indicated a statistically significant difference at p-value preset at 0.05 levels between GNS' self-ratings and the preceptors' ratings of the GNS' IPCC levels in all the six dimensions at p < 0.001. The mean rank for the GNS' self-assessment result was 37.88, while the mean rank for the preceptors' assessments results was 15.46, respectively. A compelling finding of this result was that the GNS rated themselves significantly higher in all the IPCC categories than the preceptors rated them. Surprisingly, participants' age only played a statistically significant role on the GNS' and the preceptors' assessment of the scores of GNS' IPCC levels. The findings from the study can be indicative that the ICAR could be a reliable tool for end of nursing program assessments of learners' IPCC levels. Future researchers should replicate this study with a larger sample. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
