Abstract | This paper explores the history of international schools in the Tokyo/Yokohama region and the role they played in helping to modernize Japan in the Western mold. The author argues that these schools and their alumni helped grow two empires: that of the Western powers in Asia and that of Japan itself. (As Provided). |
