Abstract	This paper aims to provide an overview of recent policy developments in Initial Teacher Education (ITE) in Ireland, their impact on practices and challenges for ITE providers and schools. It will outline and discuss recruitment and selection processes, recent structural and programme design changes as well as the cultural and political platforms on which teacher education is enacted.
