Abstract | In the fall of 2014, the University at Buffalo created a new universal Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET). The purpose of the present study was to establish the construct validity of SET items. Rasch analyses of data from 7 semesters (N=203,194 students) revealed problems with item fit indices and threshold distances. Changes to items and wording for each respective problem were implemented individually and improved item performance. Finally, follow-up student interview data were examined to provide further context for issues arising in the evaluation of college teaching, suggesting directions for future work. This study serves as an example of the need for continual data collection and item refinement during measure implementation to improve a SET validity argument. (ERIC). |
