AbstractThe rate of digital media usage among eight to 18-year-old students, since late 1990s, has risen by over 30%, yet the official acceptance of such technology for educational outcomes remains limited. Due to such a remarkable growth of digital media usage in absence of formal educational recognition, researchers began to explore how specifically digital games exhibit effectiveness as alternative and individualistic learning tools. The purpose of this study examined the theoretical proposition from Uli Bronfenbrenner's (1978) Ecological Systems Theory that an interconnected framework of variables made a difference to the measures of social digital game-play (SC/DGP), cognitive quality (CQ), environmental stress (ES), and vocabulary learning (LO) on the individual's ecological psycho-social framework. No prior studies had examined all five constructs through mixed research in relationship to the human individual's ecological psycho-social framework. The results of the study emphasized sensitivity to the unique disposition of each respective demographic category, as embodied by individual participants. While the variables CQ and LO showed a degree of normalization across gender and age categories, the ES and DGP variables were more difficult to report and interpret. Quantitatively, the research proved that social game play or (SC) shifted from statistically non-significant results upon LO in one data model to statistically significant results in the next data model, contingent upon involvement of DGP. Moreover, the inferential analysis proved that stress was reduced and DGP was normally moderated within the structural equation models. Qualitative data to some extent lent further causality to those effects to be used for individualized consumer leadership and demographically sensitive design philosophies.
