Abstract | For Indigenous students in minority education contexts, it is important that teachers have strategies to combine both cultural knowledge and mathematical knowledge in appropriate ways. This paper presents the results from analysing preservice teachers' statistical enquiry assignment linked to a cultural context, in a Maori-medium teacher education programme. The results indicate that there are many tensions in trying to honour both the learning of cultural and statistical understandings. The findings provide insights to teacher educators about what may be needed to reduce some of these tensions and the implications for teachers working in Maori-medium schools. (As Provided). |
