This document draws from the literature that describes best and promising practices that may address the needs of this vulnerable population. The 30 articles whose abstracts are included in this publication represent a sampling of research studies and writings on the topic of Native American student dropout prevention strategies. The following six subheadings are used to categorize articles: (1) Effective and Promising Interventions; (2) Factors Contributing to School Failure; (3) Family and Community Support; (4) Resilience and Protective Factors; (5) Retention Strategies in Higher Education; and (6) Teacher Preparation and Support.
