Abstract | The state of Delaware has expanded its K-12 educational structure and now offers parents and students an alternative to public education. Some of the charter schools in the state have excelled academically, fiscally, and organizationally, while others have been criticized for being financially irresponsible, or not meeting the state's academic standard. Since 2014, three Delaware charter schools have closed and several others have been mandated to receive guidance from the Delaware Department of Education. One common theme with all the Delaware charter schools who have failed or struggled has been student demographic. In all cases, these schools served a minority population of 50 percent or greater. To provide awareness and determine if principal leadership has a correlation on a school's culture, this research has been captured. This research focuses on four Delaware charter schools and the relationship principal leadership style has on a school's culture. Using the School Culture Survey and the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire to collect data from teachers and each school's leader, this quantitative study helps determine if transformational or transactional leadership factors have a positive or negative impact on a school culture. The participants in this study are middle school (7th and 8th) teachers and school leaders serving a minority student population of 50 percent or more.
