Abstract | The findings show that the practices and procedures used by TRIO professionals promote student engagement at its highest level. The findings show that the participants of the current study credit their experience in SSS as having influenced their decision to persist to graduation. The findings show that the SSS program played a significant role in the integration of the 12 African-American male undergraduate students into university community. As a result, the participants in the current study developed a "sense of belonging." Lastly, the findings reflected the fact that the participants were actively involved in clubs and organizations throughout the university. Through an analysis of the findings, the researcher was able to identify four emergent themes that could possibly slow the ever-increasing attrition rate of African-American undergraduate students. The factors are: (a) provide financial and academic support; (b) adopting policies that promote inclusion; (c) student involvement yields persistence (d) student engagement is key to greater student persistence. The research study was not without limitations and further research on the topic is recommended. Keywords: Student Support Services, Sense of Belonging, Integration, Student Involvement, Financial and Academic support.
