AbstractThis research study, grounded in the theoretical framework of education change, used the Concerns-Based Adoption Model of change to examine the concerns of Illinois high school teachers and administrators regarding the implementation of 1:1 computing programs. A quantitative study of educators investigated the stages of concern and the mathematics teachers about the implementation of 1:1 computing devices. The researcher approached all 798 high school districts affiliated with the Illinois High School Association to participate in the research if their school district fit into one of three criteria: full 1:1 implementation at all grades 9-12, partial implementation at some grades, or carts of 1:1 devices that may be checked out. There were 31,264 high school teachers during the 2014-15 school year. Electronic media was used to distribute the survey to all 798 high school districts and SurveyMonkey was used to collect the response data. There were 451 teachers and administrators that participated in the research survey. This sample size gave an error level of 6.4% and a 95% confidence level. The researcher found that Illinois high school teachers and administrators both functioned at the Awareness Stage of Concern (SoC) and teachers used 1:1 computing devices at the Refinement Level of Use (LoU). The researcher concluded that there was a relationship between Illinois high schools teachers' demographics and the teachers' LoU. The research data also showed a correlation between the number of hours of professional development training and the LoU of 1:1 computing devices. Finally, the researcher concluded that there was a correlation between teachers' SoC and their LoU of 1:1 computing devices. The lasting result is the need for continuous professional development opportunities to address teacher concerns and increase the varied levels of classroom use of 1:1 computing devices.
