Abstract | Higher education institutions hire adjunct faculty to teach with little or no integration into these institutions. This quantitative study examined the relationship between adjunct faculty's perceived level of integration into a private, Midwest, higher education institution and the types of support services offered by the institution. This research aimed to address the following questions: At a Midwest higher education institution what support and professional development services are available to adjunct faculty members? To what degree does adjunct faculty perceive that the current support services are integrating them into the university? How do support services correlate adjunct faculty's integration into higher education institutions? What additional support services would adjunct faculty like to have offered to them at the university? The sample included 74 participants geographically located in the Upper Midwest. Participants in the online survey varied in demographics; however, all participants served as adjunct faculty, and taught at the same higher educational institution. Faculty at ten of the 11 institution's sites were surveyed. The survey included three sections: Demographics, types of services available to adjunct faculty, and the perceived integration level. Descriptive statistics indicated that technology, access to administration, and professional development be provided as the top priorities as indicated in research questions two and three. To assist in integration, the recommendation was that higher education institutions provided as many support services as possible to adjunct faculty members. This integration can lead to higher job satisfaction for the adjunct instructors and a higher quality, more consistent experience for the students.
