AbstractCloud computing has recently emerged as a potential alternative to the traditional on-premise computing that businesses can leverage to achieve operational efficiencies. Consequently, technology managers are often tasked with the responsibilities to analyze the barriers and variables critical to organizational cloud adoption decisions. This quantitative study developed and tested an enhanced technology acceptance model (ETAM) with three external variables, quality of Internet connection (QIC), security/privacy (SP), and perceived awareness (PA) as antecedents of perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEU) in cloud computing context. Findings from 92 valid responses in an online survey from Nigeria southwest region and the federal capital territory, Abuja, showed that PU and PEU were predictors of cloud computing adoption decisions, which is consistent with the technology acceptance model (TAM). PEU (R2 = 0.33) had a greater impact than PU (R2 = 0.16) on cloud computing adoption decision. Further, the quality of Internet connection (QIC) influenced significantly perceived usefulness (PU) and security/privacy (SP) influenced significantly perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEU). Technology awareness was not a significant barrier to cloud computing adoption by Nigerian small- and medium-scaled enterprises (SMEs). Findings could help technology managers to make informed cloud adoption decisions and cloud service providers to gain enhanced insights into the variables to achieve fast adoption of cloud computing in Nigeria.
