AbstractThe role of the school speech-language pathologist (SLP) has recently evolved to reflect national trends of educational reform. In an era of accountability for all student learning, Response to Intervention (RTI) has become the predominant vehicle for providing preventative, intensified instruction to students at risk. School SLPs in Indiana have begun adopting this model for the unique purpose of speech sound remediation. The purpose of this study was to obtain additional information regarding school-based SLPs' experiences with and perceptions of RTI in one state. The study examined usage trends and SLP perspectives of the benefits and obstacles of RTI implementation and resulting program outcomes. Factors influencing SLP clinical decision-making regarding whether to use the RTI model for speech sound remediation were examined. Findings were discussed in light of current evidence, and suggestions for future research were made. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
