Abstract | The authors of this report analyzed the most recent data to illustrate the impact of literacy skills on both the micro- and macro-economic levels. The report explores whether there is a case to be made for direct links between literacy skill and income level. Data relating to the ability to get a job, job retention and promotion, risk of job loss, length of time unemployed and rates of pay were examined. The report provides a summary of how literacy skill and low income are related, and what these relationships imply for public policy. The following are appended: (1) References; and (2) Statistical Tables. [For "Summary: From Poverty to Prosperity Literacy's Impact on Canada's Economic Success," see ED565184.] (As Provided). |
