AbstractThe distinctive role of the university in society is always fragile and always in jeopardy. At its core, that role is primarily extending and deepening human understanding through research, scholarship, and teaching. This report presents an analysis of the following 12 collaborations between Canadian Universities and corporations, donors, and governments: (1) Alberta Ingenuity Centre for In-Situ Energy (AICISE); (2) Centre for Oil Sands Innovation (COSI); (3) Consortium for Heavy Oil Research by University Scientists (CHORUS); (4) Consortium for Research and Innovation in Aerospace in Quebec (CRIAQ); (5) Enbridge Centre for Corporate Sustainability; (6) Mineral Deposit Research Unit (MDRU); (7) Vancouver Prostate Centre; (8) Balsillie School of International Affairs; (9) Munk School of Global Affairs; (10) Partnership: University of Ontario Institute of Technology/Durham College/Ontario Power Generation; (11) Partnership: University of Toronto/Pierre Lassonde-Goldcorp Inc.; and (12) Partnership: Western University/Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP. Guiding principles for university collaborations is appended. (ERIC).
