AbstractCompressed time from matriculation to graduation prevalent in executive graduate degree programs means that traditional methods of identifying deficiencies in student writing during the course of study may not provide timely remediation enabling for student success. This study examined a writing-intensive, 10-month executive graduate degree program using the "Criterion[superscript SM]" online writing evaluation to identify student who demonstrated a lack of graduate-level writing proficiency. Analysis tested whether the "Criterion[superscript SM]" online writing evaluation was a valid and reliable predictor of student performance. The study used a cluster sample of graduate students over three academic years (n = 566) to determine quantitatively the relationship between "Criterion[superscript SM]" evaluation scores and student performance on essay assignments. Spearman correlation tested the connection between evaluation scores and essay grades. Analysis of variance examined whether "Criterion[superscript SM]" provided a reliable predictive assessment across different student populations across three academic years. Statistical analyses indicated a positive correlation between "Criterion[superscript SM]" evaluation scores and final essay examination grades and no statistically significant variance between three different student populations, indicating that "Criterion[superscript SM]" provided a valid and reliable predictive result in the institution's executive graduate degree program.
