Abstract | This is the first in a series of five horse project activity guides for youth. Levels 1-3 focus on "horse-less" activities, while Levels 4 and 5 zero in on riding and horsemanship. Each guide has an achievement program to encourage youth to learn and develop life skills. This guide focuses on the introductory basics and familiarizes youth with horses. Activities include horse body shop, designing the perfect horse, paper dolls, human cues and group relay knot. Learners will learn about horse nutrition, equine teeth, purchasing decisions, judging horses and much more. This guide contains the following chapters: (1) Discovering Horses; (2) Horse Appearance; (3) Behavior and Safety; and (4) Exploring. Glossary and resources are included. [For related guides, see ED540780, ED540781, ED540782, and ED540779.] (ERIC). |
