Abstract | In this bulletin, the author shares his observations on the status of art education in America. The study for this report is based upon the writer's own contacts in the education and industrial world and upon returns of a questionnaire which was sent to leading art educators, directors, supervisors, and teachers throughout the country. The author concludes that unquestionably the Nation is awakening to a realization of the great importance of art in civilization, and there is no doubt of increased art activity in education. Contents of the bulletin include: (1) The background (to 1920); (2) The situation in 1920; (3) Basis for this report; (4) Analysis of questionnaire; (5) The New York State plan; (6) The Massachusetts aims; (7) The Pennsylvania program; (8) Detroit and Los Angeles objectives; (9) High-school art; (10) One-year course on art appreciation; (11) Competitions and exhibitions; (12) Pageants and the project method; (13) Shortage of teachers; and (14) Conclusions.
