Abstract | Successful transition planning is a lifelong process in which the student, family members, friends, and professionals come together to develop and act upon a plan that will lead to a successful adult life. For this reason, transition planning has become a part of several federal laws. The most encompassing of these laws, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), focuses on transition as a way to ensure successful postsecondary results. What is transition and how can people make it happen? This booklet provides you with information about roles in transition so that you can make it happen. It describes several specific roles for each member of a transition team. It is hoped that you can gain insight and suggestions from this document to improve and expand your role in transition planning. (ERIC). |
