Abstract	This study highlights the lack of studies that connect emotional intelligence to leadership. There are numerous studies of leadership and several studies about emotional intelligence; however, there are few studies that connect emotional intelligence to leadership. The study utilized the Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ-i) survey and the scored data set for data collection. A total of 1,019 school superintendents in the states of Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio were asked to participate in the study. A researcher-developed theoretical framework was used to graphically demonstrate a connection of emotional intelligence to transformational leadership. The theoretical framework consists of transformational leadership traits and the scale and subscale components of the EQ-i survey. An effective return rate of 13% was sufficient to develop a connection of emotional intelligence to transformational leadership. While this study established a connection of emotional intelligence to transformational leadership, it did not demonstrate any effect of age, race, or gender.
