Abstract | This study compared the leadership orientations of Texas superintendents who had completed the Lamar University Executive Leadership Academy for Superintendents (LUELAS) with superintendents who had not completed the training. Specifically, this study was designed to determine whether there is a significant difference between the leadership orientations of LUELAS-trained superintendents and superintendents who had not been so trained. In addition, the study looked at the demographic descriptors of the two groups of superintendents: gender, age, number of years as superintendent, and student enrollment at each superintendent's respective district. To determine the leadership orientations of Texas school superintendents, this study required the use of causal-comparative research. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to describe existing situations or phenomena. In this case, the leadership orientations of Texas superintendents were studied. No statistically significant differences were found between the leadership orientations of LUELAS-trained superintendents and non-LUELAS-trained superintendents when exploratory data analysis and a multivariate analysis of variance were used. There was some difference identified with experience and district size within the demographic indicators among the two groups, indicating that non-LUELAS-trained superintendents tended to be less experienced and served smaller Texas school districts as compared to the LUELAS-trained superintendents. Also, data indicated that both non-LUELAS and LUELAS-trained Texas superintendents utilized all four leadership orientation frames.
