AbstractThe purpose of this guide is to help educators understand and be able to respond effectively to the needs of children with Asperger Syndrome in an inclusive classroom setting. This guide is meant to orient educators to the challenges and skills of students with Asperger Syndrome and outline strategies that can be easily implemented to meet their needs. The heart of this document is a six-step plan educators and their team can use to prepare for the inclusion of a child with Asperger Syndrome in their classroom. Information is also given to help teachers address the sensory needs of children with Asperger Syndrome and work with parents and other educational professionals to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and plan for transitions related to school and later life. Five appendices are included: (1) Addressing Sensory Needs; (2) Academic and Environmental Supports; (3) Tips for Talking with Parents; (4) Social Supports; and (5) IEP and Transition Planning. (Contains 54 resources and 6 online resources.) [This guide was produced with Danya International, Inc.] (ERIC).
