AbstractThis Subcommittee on Higher Education, Lifelong Learning, and Competitiveness hearing on "New Innovations and Best Practices under the Work-force Investment Act," better known as WIA, is about the reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act. Members testifying before the Committee were the Honorable Jason Altmire, a Representative in Congress from the State of Pennsylvania; Honorable Brett Guthrie, Ranking Minority Member, Subcommittee on Higher Education, Lifelong Learning, and Competitiveness; and Honorable Ruben Hinojosa, Chairman, Subcommittee on Higher Education, Lifelong Learning, and Competitiveness. Witnesses testifying before the committee were: Morton Bahr, president emeritus, Communications Workers of America, commissioner, National Commission on Adult Literacy; Bill Camp, Sacramento Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO; Karen R. Elzey, vice president & executive director, Institute for a Competitive Workforce, U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Yvonne Bonnie Gonzalez, chief executive officer, Workforce Solutions, Inc.; Sherry Johnson, associate director, Lincoln Trail Area Development District; and Steve Wooderson, administrator, Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services .
