Abstract | In order to sustain strong academic programs and to provide a safe and comfortable environment for learning in the state's public colleges and universities, the facilities that house the institutions' programs must be maintained and replenished. The size, condition, and adequacy of these facilities have an impact on the quantity and quality of the education provided to the students enrolled in South Carolina's public colleges and universities. The primary purpose of the Facilities Statistical Abstract is to provide a detailed statistical profile of the facilities at the public colleges and universities in South Carolina. This abstract presents data that can be used for comparative assessments of the use of space for instructional purposes. It is intended, therefore, to serve as an analytical tool for use in facilities planning at the institutional and state levels. The four sections of this report include: (1) Utilization of Instructional Space; (2) Interior Space Characteristics; (3) Building Characteristics; and (4) Appendices (SC Public Institutions Information and a bibliography). (Contains 23 tables.) (ERIC). |
