AbstractMost school districts do not have a full time human resources administrator to conduct interviews and this important task most often becomes the responsibility of the building principal or a department head. Here is a guide designed for hiring employees, both professional staff as well as non-professional, in public, parochial, or private schools. It offers more than 1,000 interview questions in 48 employment categories ranging from superintendent and business manager to security officer and parent volunteer. It includes discussion about the hiring process and the different types of interviews that will be particularly useful to educators trying to develop guidelines and procedures for hiring personnel. Jobseekers, too, can use the questions to help them prepare for career-making interviews. Following acknowledgments and a introduction, this book is divided into two parts. Part I, The Interview Process, presents: (1) Identifying The Position: The Job Description; (2) Posting and Advertising the Vacancy; (3) Screening the Candidate's Vitae; (4) Conducting Criminal Background Checks; (5) Determining the Type Of Interview; (6) Using Warm-Up Questions; (7) Providing Planned Materials; (8) Requiring Candidates to Teach; (9) Selecting the Interview Questions; (10) Answering the Candidates Questions; (11) Evaluating the Interview; and (12) Evaluating the Procedure. Part II, Over One Thousand Interview Questions in Forty-Five Employment Areas to Ask the Candidates, continues with: (13) Superintendent of Schools; (14) Assistant Superintendent of Schools; (15) Director of Curriculum / Instruction; (16) Director of Human Resources; (17) Business Manager; (18) Director of Pupil Personnel Services / Special Education; (19) Director of Computer / Technology Services; (20) Director of Plant Operations; (21) Principal of Elementary School; (22) Principal of Middle School; (23) Principal of High School; (24) Assistant Principal; (25) Department Head; (26) Athletic Director; (27) Teacher: Preschool; (28) Teacher: Grades K-6; (29) Teacher: English 7-12; (30) Teacher: Math 7-12; (31) Teacher: Science K-12; (32) Teacher: History / Social Studies 7-12; (33) Teacher: Foreign Languages; (34) Teacher: Business Education; (35) Teacher: Music / General Music K-6 And Chorus; (36) Teacher: Music / Secondary Instrumental with Performing Groups; (37) Teacher: Music / Secondary Vocal With Performing Groups; (38) Teacher: Art K-8; (39) Teacher: Art 9-12; (40) Teacher: Physical Education K-8; (41) Teacher: Physical Education And Health 9-12; (42) Teacher: Vocational Education; (43) Teacher: Home and Careers / Home Economics; (44) Guidance Counselor; (45) Reading Consultant; (46) Teacher: Special Education; (47) Teacher: English as a Second Language; (48) Teacher: Library / Media Resource Center; (49) General Questions For All Disciplines; (50) The First-Year Teacher; (51) Classroom Management; (52) Social Worker; (53) School Nurse; (54) Paraprofessional / Teacher Assistant; (55) Substitute Teacher; (56) Coach; (57) Security Officer; (58) Secretary; (59) Custodian; (60) Parent Volunteer.
