AbstractA workshop was held in Vegan, Philippines 16-22 December 2001 on innovative approaches in the teaching of World Heritage. These approaches titled Vigan Heritage Education Art (HEart) highlight particular heritage sites in Southeast Asia and uses indigenous artistic concepts and techniques as a basis for teaching. Through creative arts, teachers will lead students to learn about historic environments, different cultures and world influences captured in World Heritage sites. In addition to summarizing the activities and outcomes of the workshop, there is a detailed discussion on how art and the performing arts contribute to the teaching of World Heritage. The report elaborates on the elements of art such as space, shape, form, and colour, and organization of these elements such as selectivity, variation and contrast, balance and harmony. Other art forms considered are music and body sculpture. Mid-term reports from Southeast Asia countries on their 4-year action plans to promote education about World Heritage using creative arts, since the first workshop held in Sukhothai, Thailand in February 2000, are provided. Appended are: (1) List of Participants; (2) Resources and Contacts; and (3) Vigan Heritage Education Art (HEart) Activity Sheets. (Author).
