Abstract | The nine-year program of studies for French as a Second Language (FSL) is a legal document that specifies from Grade 4 to 12 what Alberta students are expected to acquire as attitudes and linguistic, cultural, and strategic knowledge as they develop and demonstrate their communicative skills. This document contains an introduction, a rationale, philosophy statements, and general and specific outcomes. A glossary of terms and one appendix entitled Suggested Breakdown of the Grade 4-6 and Grade 7-9 Field of Experience "Holidays and Celebrations", are provided as supplementary information. This program of studies has incorporated current knowledge about second language acquisition, curriculum design, performance-based assessment, and teaching and learning experiences in the field. It differs from the 1992 program (ED354733) in that the learner outcomes define more clearly what students are to demonstrate in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes at each grade level. [This document was produced by Alberta Learning.] (Author). |
