Abstract | Pursuing a paradoxical educational strategy, embracing global and local forces at the same time (globalization) is indeed a tremendous task before any education system. This task can not be taken lightly by policymakers except by inviting failure and disappointment resulting from the mismatch between the education and the requirements of time, i.e., living in the age of "global village". Arts with their unique function in cultivating enlightened and deep seated attitudes and values can play a pivotal role in this respect. This is attributed to the arts' capacity to produce "cognitive feeling" or "feelingly cognition" which amounts to what Broudy refers to as "enlightened cherishing". Aesthetic approach to values education is, thus, a potent strategy to accomplish this end, namely the celebration of universal as well culture-specific values. (Author). |
