Abstract | As California develops local and statewide efforts to make high-quality preschool education available to all four-year-old children, the attention of policy makers and program planners has turned increasingly toward how to ensure a well-trained, stable, and linguistically and culturally diverse preschool teaching workforce. A central part of this discussion is the setting of appropriate education and training standards for preschool teachers. The purpose of this policy brief is to examine the history and current status of preschool teacher certification in California; to explore the landscape of Pre-K certification in other states; and to identify options and issues as California moves forward in planning for Preschool for All. [This policy brief was produced by the Center for the Study of Child Care Employment.] (ERIC). |
