Abstract | These lesson plans were developed by teachers and designed to be helpful to social studies teachers in grades eight through 12, mostly in United States history or government. The lesson plans are organized in a logical order for a unit on religion. Each lesson contains educational objectives, academic expectations, context, materials needed, and detailed procedures for classroom implementation. Lesson plans are: (1) "Introduction to Religion in American Society and Government"; (2) "What Is the Proposed Context for Teaching Religion in Public Schools?"; (3) "Religious Freedom Cases"; (4) "Historical Document Analysis"; (5) "Creating a Historical Display Case"; (6) "Religion in Kentucky-Working with Primary Sources"; (7) "The Black Church in Kentucky"; (8) "Native American Religions"; (9) "Jewish Immigrant Experiences"; (10) "Catholic Immigrant Experiences"; (11) "Minority Religions in America"; and (12) "Religious Art Symbols".
