Abstract | This activities booklet focuses on the story of Alaska's flag. The booklet is intended for teachers to use with students in the intermediate grades. Each activity in the booklet contains: background information, a summary and time estimate, state standards, a step-by-step technique for implementation of the activity, assessment tips, materials and resources needed, and a vocabulary. Activity sheets include: "Create a Classroom Flag (What Is the Story behind the Flag Contest?)"; "Famous Alaskans (What Do We Learn from Famous People?)"; "Comparing State Flags (What Does a Flag Represent?); and "Flag Etiquette (Why Is Etiquette Important?)." Includes a K-W-L chart, principles of flag design and flag contest rules, scoring guide and chart for famous person report, state flag comparison chart, scoring guide for state flag presentations, procedures for folding the flag, and frequently asked questions about the flag.
