Abstract | This paper describes aspects of the design and implementation of "Learning How To Learnin Classrooms, Schools, and Networks," a major development and research project within the Teaching and Learning Research Programme in the United Kingdom. It focuses on how a group of Cambridge academics and researchers, working in partnership with other universities, school districts, and schools, is attempting to meet the legitimate demands of these different communities for different kinds of knowledge. First, the paper describes the overall design of the project; it then looks at one element in more detail: the design and use of a questionnaire for school staff and how the results are used in feedback for development. The paper also summarizes some of the challenges that arise in such efforts. Appendixes discuss factors in terms of component questionnaire items, professional learning practices and beliefs, and school management practices and systems. (Contains 34 references.)
