Abstract	This report was prepared for Queensborough Community College/City University of New York, located in Bayside, New York. The report is a summary of national employment statistics and trends in relation to educational attainment. The current economy is driven by jobs that require high levels of knowledge, ease in handling and disseminating information, and skills in technology. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employees with work-related training as their most significant source of education represented 71.3% of employees in 2000. Employees with an associate degree/postsecondary vocational award or higher accounted for less than 30% of total employees during 2000. Employees with less than an associate degree dominated the typically lower-paying fields such as support positions, service occupations, production, operations, and agriculture. Employees with an associate degree/postsecondary vocational award are expected to experience an employment growth rate of 24.1% between 2000-2010, and those with a B.A. degree or higher are expected to experience growth of 21.6%. During this same decade, employees with work-related training are expected to experience growth of only 12.4%. The report discusses the role of the community college in educating the workforce, lists the annual salaries of graduates from selected college programs, and makes recommendations regarding undergraduate job training.
